(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time/money.)
Trucks: Off Road is an off-road “monster truck” style game that recently released on the App Store by the team at ODD Games. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because ODD developed the 2012 game, Monster Truck Destruction. (I think it was originally published by Chillingo.) There’s a lot of these kinds of games on the App Store and I can honestly say that Trucks: Off Road is the best off-road game that I have played on the platform. The on-screen controls work well and the physics on the trucks are near-perfect. There’s tons of tracks with a variety of different racing styles. If you have a newer device, the visuals are absolutely beautiful once you kick them up the settings. Also, this is the first game that I’ve played that has actual real mud physics. As you race, you’ll see the tracks deform and kick up dirt/mud all over your truck. If you’re a fan of racing games, TOR is definitely worth checking out. It’s got a big career mode, tons of upgrades, and a lot of customization. My only real issue is that it’s a little tough to earn money. There’s definitely some grinding involved. Regardless, I’m pretty impressed with Trucks: Off Road.
