(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Rocat Jumpurr is an arcade-y roguelite game that was recently released on the App Store by the team at Mousetrap Games. This game really flew under the radar for most people. You play as a cat in space as you explore caves and hunt down monsters. The object is to get as far as you can, upgrade in between levels, rinse & repeat. Luckily, with each run being randomly generated, things never feel repetitive. During each run, you move around by shooting your bazooka in the opposite direction. It’s a simple concept, but things can get tricky when a couple enemies are involved. As you progress, you’ll run across stores that sell power-ups and even some huge bosses. I have to say that Rocat Jumpurr really impressed me. The visuals are absolutely beautiful and it’s got a great cast of characters. It’s just a charming package all around. Now, I will say that I wish it had a few more “extras” in the game. I would have liked to have seen some different weapons or unlockable characters. Something besides just upgrading the same handful of things all the time. Regardless, Rocat Jumpurr is a hell of a lot of fun and definitely deserves more attention.
