I know that I said that I haven’t reviewed any SHMUPS (shoot em’ ups) lately and all of the sudden, I’m reviewing two of them back to back, but I really wanted to get some light shed on this game. Arkfront is a unique vertical shooter by Intensity Faucet Games that recently released on the App Store. The game blends a standard SHMUP game with a bit of tower defense and even a pinch of RPG mechanics. So, not only are you shooting your way through each level, you’re also guarding your home base. It’s a cool addition that brings an extra bit of strategy to the game. I’ve actually been having a lot of fun with Arkfront so far. The story is well written, the pixel art is on point, and there’s tons of things to unlock and upgrade. My only issue that I have are the controls. It has those controls where the ship is always under your thumb where you can’t see it. I would have liked to at least have had a different control scheme, but I’ve gotten used to it. Regardless, Arkfront is a solid “premium” shooter. There’s more than 120 different levels, weekly challenges, an endless mode, and more. If you’re a fan of vertical shooters and don’t mind the “thumb over the ship” controls, Arkfront is a MUST-HAVE!
