Triad Smash iOS SNAPP REVIEW!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Triad Smash is a top-down open-word game by Amasis Brauch that released last month on the App Store. You play as an unnamed vigilante that sets out to save Trinity Island from the brutal Triad gang that has taken over. Now, I will be first to say that this game is far from perfect. It’s a GTA-style game with a fairly long campaign, side jobs, cars, planes, helicopters, 17 different cities, and a ton more. It’s an ambitious game with so much going on that it almost feels like too much at times. I’m serious when I say there is a LOT going on. It’s actually pretty impressive how much was crammed into this game. Unfortunately, the problem is that with all these different “events”, they all need different actions. So, the screen is constantly covered with buttons, gauges, texts, and whatever else can be thrown at it. The controls work fine enough when walking and shooting, but once you get in a vehicle, it’s near impossible to control. I eventually got the hang of things after a while, but I still felt like I was fighting the controls more than I was fighting enemies. Triad Smash is a diamond in the rough. It has so much to love, but also so much to hate. The developer looks like they are pretty active with already a few updates since it’s release. So, hopefully we see some fixes or at least controller support. Regardless, Triad Smash still has it’s charm and is well worth checking out.
