Kate Kite iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Kate Kite is an endless runner that recently released on the App Store by indie developer Duyang Chen. It’s a minimalistic side-scrolling game where you play as a girl who has lost her legs, yet is eager to run. First off, Kate Kite is absolutely beautiful to look at. The visuals and soundtrack blend perfectly together and hand painted style visuals are gorgeous. The controls could definitely be tweaked a little though. As you’re running, you tap the right side of the screen to jump and while in the air, you tap on the left side of the screen to fly, then tap/hold back on the right side to maneuver yourself, then tap back on the left side to stop flying. (Not to mention there’s a shield button for blocking crystals) The controls are way more confusing than they need to be. It’s not quite enough to ruin the game, but it’s close. I’ve been playing for a few days now and have issues at times. Controls aside, Kate Kite is a fun little endless runner. There are several different kites you can unlock, each with their own unique stats and there are of course, GameCenter Leaderboards for the competitive people out there. Even with the wonky control scheme, you can’t really go wrong picking this one up for a dollar.
