Space Cobras 3K iOS SNAPP REVIEW!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Space Cobras 3K is a third-person space shooter by Soul Six Studio that was released on the App Store this week. Now, I’ve never heard of Soul Six Studio and this was their first game (that I know of) on the App Store, so I was excited to play this one. First off, this game is pretty polished. There’s a full story mode with a cast of charming characters and full voiceovers. The game is laid out across 4 planets, each with their own set of levels. Basically, the object is to make it through each level while dodging obstacles and fighting off waves of enemies. The controls work well with a v-stick to control your ship and two speed buttons. (Your ship auto-fires) Eventually, you’ll have an extra button for power-ups that you pick up. All in all, Space Cobras is a decent game with the exception of the v-stick being on the right side with no option to flip it to the left. (I eventually got used to it though.) My biggest issue is that this is a F2P (free to play) game that costs money up front. There’s an energy timer, multiple currencies, the whole shebang. The only difference was that there aren’t any ads in the game. (Even though you get the ad privacy option in the beginning.) So, you’re basically paying for the ad removal up front? I’m really not sure. Regardless, I’m on the fence with this one. Space Cobras 3K is a pretty cool game if you can get used to the backwards controls. It’s got a fun story and there’s quite a bit of content. If it was free, I’d be saying go out and download right now. And if it was a true paid game, I’d say go out and buy it right now. But mixing both pay models together just doesn’t sit right with me. So, if you can get past the dollar entry fee and just think of it as an ad blocker, there’s a lot of fun to be had with this game.

UPDATE: Looks like this game is free now.
