Jackal Squad iOS SNAPP REVIEW!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Jackal Squad is a top-down Shooter that was recently released on the App Store by Rocket Studios. You play as the “Jackal Squad” in WWII as you try and rescue hostages behind enemy lines. I was actually really surprised how good this game was when I started playing it. This studio usually releases a lot of…..we’ll just say “games that normally don’t make the Roundup”. But I decided to give this game a try anyway. The best way to describe Jackal Squad is a mashup between the old Commando game and Archero. You control a military jeep (at first) as you shoot down enemies and rescue hostages. It’s a simple concept, but works just fine with me. As you progress through the levels, you’ll pick up different power-ups that’ll last you until the end of the mission. Levels are fairly short and sweet at first, but do get a little longer the further you get. There’s a lot to like in this game. The pixel art is absolutely beautiful and there are tons of weapons, upgrades, and vehicles to unlock. There’s also a PVP mode. Unfortunately, Jackal Squad is F2P, so there’s a lot of the usual tropes with the worst being the good old energy timer. But, if you can see past that, Jackal Squad is surprisingly good!
