M.Duck iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

I’ll just go with the official description on the App Store for this game because it pretty much sums it all up. “M.Duck is a roguelike gallery shooter about a duck that knows magic”. Every so often you come across a game that you love just as much as you hate. That’s this game. You’re basically fighting your way up a tower that’s full of random enemies. Each enemy has it’s own unique fighting style that you’ll have to remember. After three waves, you’ll get to choose one of 3 relics to go onto the next floor. The object is to keep stacking relics and make it through the entire game. Once you die, you’ll start all over again, but you’ll gain knowledge on the enemies by completing little mini-missions for each creature in your Field Book. There’s honestly so much to unpack in this game. What drives me crazy are the controls. I’m pretty sure they are made wonky on purpose, but there definitely is a steep learning curve to master them. You have to use the left and right buttons to dodge, but also have to use the same left button to shoot while you’re moving the joystick. It’s definitely frustrating at times, but you do get used to it. Regardless, M.Duck is a must-have for any fans of roguelikes. There’s tons of enemies to fight, relics to find, and a duck-ton of lore to unlock. Just be prepared for a challenge.
