Wavecade iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Wavecade is a sci-fi shmup (shoot em up) by Spalato Bros that was recently released on the App Store. Inspired by games like Galaga and Space Invaders, Wavecade has a somewhat familiar feeling when you play it. What makes this game unique is that you can manipulate time by moving your ship up and down on the screen. This acts as almost a “bullet time” where you can maneuver around obstacles when things get too hectic. It’s a cool feature that takes a bit to get used to at first. The game speeds up after each wave, so the mechanic definitely comes in handy as you progress. With the App Store so full of shmup games, I was expecting just another shooter. But, something just feels “right” when playing Wavecade. The controls are tight and with the haptic feedback, the shooting is very satisfying. I will say that I usually prefer shmup games in portrait mode, but I honestly don’t mind landscape with this game. If you’re a fan of shmups, Wavecade is definitely worth the couple of bucks. There’s quite a bit packed into this 198mb game. New game modes to unlock, tons of ship customizations, multiplayer, and more.
