(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
1 Bit Survivor is a turn-based roguelike by indie developer Chaz Acheronti. The story goes that a virus has taken over and you must drive across the country to reach the underground bunker in order to survive. With each level being a “day”, you have 28 days to survive. That means making it through the game in one run. Within each level, you’ll have to find gas for your vehicle to make it to the next day. Of course there are going to be enemies and hazards that get in your way, so it’s not as simple as just grabbing fuel and leaving. This is what I really liked about 1 Bit Survivor. The game forces you to make your own choices in order to survive. Should you attack an enemy up close and risk some health? Or shoot from afar and use up your ammo? Each level almost feels like a puzzle. Every move becomes strategic if you want to stay alive. I’ve been having a lot of fun with 1 Bit Survivor so far. It’s tense, brutal at times, and you never know what the next day is going to bring you. If you’re a fan of roguelikes, 1 Bit Survivor needs to be on your device.
