Everyone knows that I’m a huge fan of weird games or games that are just “different”. Outta Gas fits both of those marks. Developed by Aussie developer Waffle Cone Games, Outta Gas has you joining Boris the test dummy and Gavin Gravy the turkey as you launch your vehicle through the wacky Waffle Universe. It’s honestly hard to describe Outta Gas. It’s kind of a cross between Angry Birds, pinball, and Burrito Bison. The object is to launch your vehicle in the air and have it bounce around the world while destroying objects and earning as many points as possible before landing on a predetermined platform. While your vehicle is in motion, you can tap the screen to use flippers, boxing gloves, or whatever is available to keep your vehicle from stopping. You can also use the left/right arrows at the bottom of the screen to move your vehicle manually which uses fuel. Once you’re out of fuel and your vehicle is stopped, that move is over. Outta Gas is a hot mess of fun. The hand drawn visuals are unique and the levels are totally chaotic. The game is far from perfect though. I had no clue what the hell I was doing for the first 15 minutes. There’s a couple confusing screenshots during the tutorial, but it honestly didn’t help. It’s also easy to lose track of your vehicle with so much going on. (Especially when playing on an iPhone). I also noticed a bit of frame rate issues at times. Regardless, Outta Gas is a blasty blast. The game reminds me of the early days of the App Store when games were all about being fun and different. So, if you’re looking for something unique, definitely give Outta Gas a try.
