(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Lumen Rider is a fast paced action game that was recently released on the App Store by Su Min Kim of Snow Games. In Lumen Rider, you take control of an unnamed rider as you speed through a neon soaked landscape while shooting down enemies and avoiding obstacles. The game plays a bit similar to the Jetpack Joyride series. Your cycle is always in forward motion as you tap the right side of the screen to jump/fly and the left side of the screen to dash. When on the ground, the controls change up a little allowing you to stop time and shoot at enemies. It’s not a very fluid control scheme, but it works well enough. As you progress, you can earn gems that you can use to upgrade your HP, attack, defense, and more. There’s also a card system in place that unlocks new weapons and riders. Lumen Rider’s unique style helps and hinders the game at the same time. The menu system is confusing and the card system feels like an afterthought with most of them being locked behind the “premium” currency. A good tutorial would’ve helped out a lot. I’ve still been having a lot of fun with the game. It’s stylish, the soundtrack is really good, and most of all, it’s a lot of fun to play once you figure things out. If you have a little patience, Lumen Rider is definitely worth checking out.
