(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Turbo Tap Robo is an arcade-style action game that was recently released on the App Store by indie developer Josh Swanson. TTR is a tough one to describe. It’s basically a fighting game at its core, but there’s much more going on than just fighting. In this game you play as a weird robot thing as you take on waves of enemies. Even though the fighting is simple, it’s oh so very satisfying. Your main weapons of choice are your arms in this game. As you fight, your arms will start to wear down and eventually break. So, you need to keep an eye on your arm strength so you don’t end up with a couple of nubs. As you progress, you’ll be able to level up your abilities and earn “gears”. Gears are used as currency and can be used to repair and purchase new arms. There are tons of different arms to unlock, each with their own unique stats. So, finding a good combination is essential. I’ve been having a lot of fun with Turbo Tap Robo so far. The artwork is great, the controls are snappy, but most of all, the game is fun to play. There are 2 different modes. A level based Adventure Mode and an Endless Mode. Adventure Mode is fun enough, but I actually prefer playing in Endless Mode. My only real issue so far has been the currency balance. It doesn’t seem to pay off enough for how fast your arms wear down. Regardless, Turbo Tap Robo is a whole bunch of wonkiness and I love every bit of it! If you like weird games, this one is definitely worth checking out!
