(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Swords & Sandals Immortals is the newest entry in the Swords & Sandals series by Whiskey Barrel Studios. For those of you that don’t know, Swords & Sandals is a gladiator style turned-based RPG that has been released with multiple different stories and themes over the years. This time around things get a bit futuristic with space-age technology and robotic Automatons. The main gameplay loop has you taking on other fighters in a gladiator-style match. You each get a turn to attack/defend/etc until one of you is victorious. At the end of each day, you’ll upgrade your character, purchase new weapons, and more. It’s honestly hard to fit everything into a single paragraph. Swords & Sandals has been refined over the years and is packed with content and character depth. There are tons of skills, talents, classes, weapons, and more. I’ll admit that it’s been a little while since I’ve played one of these games, so I was a bit lost on some of the lore in the beginning. But it was tough not to get sucked in after only a couple of minutes. I’ve been having a blast with this game so far. Swords & Sandals Immortals is an absolute gem. Every new day seems to open up something fresh and exciting for you to master. The writing is witty and the characters are charming in their own weird way. Playing Immortals makes me want to go back through the entire series now. If you’re a fan of turn-based RPGs, Swords & Sandals Immortals is definitely worth checking out!
