Keribato iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Keribato is a puzzle RPG that was recently released on the App Store by Japanese developer Toihaus. In this game you play as Nike. A god who is stuck in a battle with immortal gods while trying to retain her wings that were stolen from her. Keribato is a grid-based game where the object is to last as long as possible by moving around the board and killing enemies with a lower hit point number than you. As you move, the enemies move along with you, so you are constantly looking two or three steps ahead of each move you make. It’s a really fun mechanic that can get tense at times. As you kill enemies, you’ll earn experience and raise your hit point score allowing you to kill tougher enemies around the board. Keribato is a really fun title with all sorts of items and power-ups to keep each run different from the last. My biggest gripe (outside of the game booting up in Japanese) is that there isn’t any kind of permanent progression. Once your run is over, that’s it. I would’ve liked to have seen some sort of unlockables or extras. Luckily, the game had GameCenter leaderboards. So, at least you can see how you fare against your friends. So, if you’re into puzzle games or roguelikes, Keribato is definitely worth checking out.
