Red Hunt: Wings of Liberty iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Red Hunt: Wings of Liberty is a vertical shmup that was recently released on the App Store by developer Play Storm. You play as a lone pilot as you try to save the world from an out of control AI that’s wanting to enslave the population. Similar to games like Sky Force Reloaded and Air Attack 2, Red Hunt is a visual masterpiece with beautiful locations, full screen bosses and crazy weapons. I’ve been having a lot of fun with the game so far. The controls feel pretty tight and the shooting is really satisfying. Unfortunately, this is one of those games that are held back by its F2P mechanics. I was fine dealing with its SIX different loot crates. Hell, I was even fine with earning random resources and its “fission” system for upgrades. But, you throw all that in and add a fuel mechanic and it ruins the experience. You’re forced to grind for multiple resources if you want to upgrade, but can only play 5 runs before your fuel runs out. It’s a shame because Red Hunt has a lot of potential. It’s honestly a fun game when you’re actually playing. I understand that developers need to eat, but there’s just way too many hoops to jump through to actually enjoy the game. If you don’t mind the F2P mechanics, Red Hunt could be worth checking out.
