Pileus Bad Trip iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Pileus Bad Trip is a side-scrolling action-platformer that was recently released on the App Store by Foxide Game Studio. You play as a young mushroom guy that has woken up to his village being demolished and his brother missing. From there, you are pretty much on your own to figure out what the hell happened. PBT was a lot bigger than I expected. There’s tons of NPCs that give you their own little missions, resources to collect, enemies to fight, and all sorts of areas to explore. What threw the game off for me was some of its tough platforming. I found myself getting frustrated trying to complete a quest, but struggling to get past a certain jump or whatever. I think that all frustration came from PBT’s small buttons. (or I just suck at platforming) There’s a lot of information on the screen mixed with NPC dialogue. Throw in 6-7 button commands and the screen gets pretty cramped on an iPhone. Luckily, PBT has controller support, but I never had a chance to test it out. Pileus Bad Trip is a mixture of a few different genres and it pulls it off fairly well. The writing is witty, the pixel art is well done, and there is a lot to keep you busy. Just be prepared for some tricky platforming and if possible, play with a controller.
