Vroomies is a top-down racing game that was recently released on the App Store by Unordered Games. At first glance, I thought that this was going to be some sort of hyper-casual racing game due to its minimalist design. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Vroomies has you racing against 7 opponents as you swipe and tap to maneuver your vehicle. Controls are simple at first, but things ramp up fairly quickly after a few races. The object is to swipe in the direction the track is going. If you swipe at the wrong time or in the wrong direction, it will slow your vehicle down. Tracks can get pretty curvy, so you’ve got to have quick thumbs. If that wasn’t enough, you’ve also got nitro boosts and jumps that you’ll need to tap on to speed things up. To kick things up a notch, you’ve also got to keep an eye on tire wear. If they wear down enough, you’ve got to hit the nearest pit stop to get them changed. There are a lot of things to keep an eye on and it’s all done in quick succession. As you progress through the championship, you’ll unlock new upgrade perks that you can use to your advantage. I’ve been having a lot of fun with this game so far. My only gripe is that I wish there was more of it. There’s only a few different vehicles to use and 12 upgrades to unlock. It would be nice to see a bit more customization in the game. Regardless, Vroomies is stressfully fun and definitely worth checking out!
