Hell Shred (or Hell Shredder) is a pixel art bullethell style game that was recently released on the App Store by Dimsum Cart Studio. The game has you controlling a ship as you navigate your way through narrow corridors and obstacles at a blistering rate of speed. Hell Shred is basically a bullethell game without the shooting. The object is to make it through each level without hitting anything. Levels are all randomly generated, so trying to memorize any kind of pattern is out the window. During each run, you will pick up power-ups and bonuses to help you along your way. Hell Shred is a tough game, but it’s not impossible. I’ve made my way through a few levels already and I’m normally horrible at these type of games. There’s not a whole lot more to Hell Shred. Outside of the regular levels, there’s an Endless Mode that you can unlock and some power-ups that you can purchase prior to a run. I found it pretty difficult to earn currency, so there’s a ton of grinding involved just to buy a one-time use of a power-up. Hell Shred may not have a lot of extras, but it’s good at what it is. A fast-paced level based game. If you’re a fan of shmups or bullethell games, Hell Shred may be worth checking out.
