Omega Knockout is a retro-style arcade boxing game by Pixel Dynamite that was recently released on the App Store. Paying homage to games like the NES classic, Punch-Out, Omega Knockout is all about learning your opponent’s patterns. Each opponent has their own unique attack pattern, but what really sets things apart are the character’s special special moves. These can be anything from Dance Dance Revolution style moves, playing card tricks, or even the lights shutting off in the middle of a fight while you try to dodge incoming punches. It’s a really cool mechanic that adds a bit of depth to the game. Omega Knockout’s controls are pretty straight forward with 2 buttons for high/low left hand punches and 2 buttons for high/low right hand punches. Then you swipe up, down, left, right to dodge. I’ve been having a lot of fun with this game so far. My only issue is that there aren’t enough variety of opponents. Each character has 5 levels of mastery, but with only 10 different opponents to face off against, things start to feel a bit same-y after a while. Regardless, Omega Knockout is still a solid arcade boxing game in a genre with only one true competitor (Prizefighters). If you’re a fan of boxing games, this one is definitely worth the purchase.
