(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Survanoid is an Arkanoid-style game that was recently released on the App Store by developer BeWise Game Studio. The game is a mixed bag of genres with tower defense, shmup, and survival/RPG elements. The core gameplay is similar to Arkanoid. Ships will come down from the top of the screen as you try to protect the mothership with your paddle- like craft. As you make your way through each level, you’ll earn different power-ups and weapons to help you out. Survanoid is a really fun game with quite a bit of depth. Unfortunately, with all that depth, quite a bit of grinding (and confusion) is involved. There are precious metals that you collect while playing, while crowns and gems act as your currency. Levels can last well over 10 minutes long and even after playing through a handful of runs, I was nowhere near able to unlock or upgrade anything. I was either short on a certain metal or didn’t have any at all. The game doesn’t do a good job on letting you know what each metal is used for and how to get it. Survanoid is still a solid Arkanoid-style game in my opinion. There are a lot of levels and enough content to keep you busy for a long while. Just be prepared to sink some time into it before you start making any headway.
