(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Runaway Toad is a side-scrolling platformer that originally released on the App Store back in 2016. It was an absolutely beautiful game where you play as a toad that’s trying to get away from a desperate princess looking for her “Prince Charming”. I’m not sure exactly when the game was pulled, but it’s back under a new publishing label and it’s of course, F2P (free to play). Luckily, most of the game is still the same. From the gorgeous visuals to the simple “tap and hold” jumping mechanics, it’s all there. Plus, a lot more has been added like new missions, weekly challenges, and all new skins. This is one of those times where I don’t mind the game going F2P. You can tell that a lot of work went into bringing this game back to life and it’s cool seeing a new generation of gamers playing it. I played the original game on my old iPhone 6S and the new version plays a lot smoother and looks a lot crisper. I just wish that the original buyers of the game were recognized and could at least have the ads taken out. Regardless, Runaway Toad is a charming platformer with all sorts of hidden secrets and things to unlock.
