(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Brick Pixel is a “Brick Breaker” style RPG that recently released on the App Store by indie developer SERAPH Games. You play as an unnamed hero as you make your way through 100 levels across 5 different worlds. Each level is a bit different with it’s own unique mission system, but the game itself plays like a normal game of Brick Breaker. Hitting something “attacks” it and if the ball passes by you, it acts as an attack to you. There’s of course enemies on the screen that you’ll need to dodge and traps to watch out for. As you play, you’ll earn experience and can level up in between levels. There’s tons of upgrades, abilities, and equipment to unlock and purchase. Brick Pixel is an absolute hidden gem. The pixel art is beautifully chunky, there’s tons of content, and most of all, it’s fun! I will say that the currency system needs a bit more balancing. Equipment is pretty much locked behind chests and it takes quite a bit to earn enough coins/gems to unlock one. Brick Pixel may have a couple bugs to work out, but it’s one of my favorite games of this year so far and definitely should be checked out!
