(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Conjury is a deck building roguelike that was recently released on the App Store by new developer Super Punch Games. The game has you playing as Ludolf the Iron Juggernaut (at first) as you try to survive while making your way through Lumtham Woods. Conjury is a pretty standard, but solid card builder. Fighting is turn-based as you draw cards to use against enemies. Each card uses a certain amount of mana and once you’ve used up that mana, it’s the enemies turn. Killing enemies will win you unique cards. This is when the game starts to get really fun. Cards have their own pros and cons, so choosing the right card is key. Each level is made up like a mini campaign with three unique encounters and then a boss fight. If you don’t make it all the way through and kill the boss, it’s game over and you’re back to the beginning again. I’m really liking Conjury so far. The whole game is really well done from the pixel art to the catchy soundtrack. My only issue is that there is no way of progressing outside of skill and a bit of luck. I know that’s pretty much games in a nutshell, but I felt like I spent a lot of time playing over and over until I eventually got lucky with a few good cards. Thankfully, you can unlock some more powerful characters once you start beating bosses and earning gems. All in all, Conjury is a really solid card builder with a ton of charm. If you’re a fan of roguelikes, definitely check this one out!
Conjury is also in this week’s SNAPP Roundup!
