(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
RogueSphere is a low-poly roguelike that was recently released on the App Store by developer Renz Rivero. The game has you controlling a “conqueror” as you shove enemies and try to survive as long as possible. Each level in RogueSphere has a time limit where you need to survive through. As you walk around the spherical level, you’ll be met with enemies that shoot on site. The object is to sneak up behind them and kill them. As you wander around, you can pick up coins that you can use to unlock buffs from towers scattered around. In between levels, you can choose one of three power-ups to help strengthen your character. RogueSphere is a solid game with a ton of things to unlock as you progress. My only issue is the pacing of the game. Your character feels very slow and enemies can be few and far between at times. So, it feels like you are just buying time and waiting for the clock to run down. Levels can go upwards to 2 minutes long feeling like an eternity at times. Regardless, RogueSphere is still a fun little title and a great first game by a new developer. With a couple tweaks, RogueSphere could be a great game!
