Now, I always try to keep politics far away from SNAPPZILLA. I try to keep politics away from my social media. And I sure as hell keep politics away from my gaming!
So, why does politics keep poking its nose into the video game industry??
We as gamers had to deal with Jack Thompson back in the early 2000’s and him stirring up trouble, calling video games, “murder simulators”. We can also thank old Jack for the creation of the ESRB. Luckily, it’s been fairly quiet in the industry since then.
Now, we have tariffs on China that could possibly raise prices on consoles and games in the future and just recently this stuff going on between the US and Iran & Syria. What does this have to do with gaming you ask? Just this week gamers in Iran and Syria sat down to play in a League of Legends tournament, just to find out that the US implemented new “restrictions” on the game.
“Due to US laws and regulations, players in your country cannot access League of Legends at this time. Such restrictions are subject to change by the US government, so if and when that happens, we will look forward to having you back on the rift.”
Nobody knows what “threat” there is involving Iranian and Syrian gamers playing LoL against US gamers and nobody knows when the embargo will be lifted.
The moral of this story is that politicians need to stay the fuck out of gaming!!
