(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time/money.)
The Black Widow is an interactive murder mystery by indie creator, Richard Fox. I’m going to try not to spoil anything, so I’ll leave the story as vague as I can. So, the spirit of a woman is trapped in an old photograph from the 1800’s. She has been charged for murder and the first female serial killer in Australian history.. Your job is to communicate with her through a ouija board and decide her fate. The object is to type in certain keywords to find out more about her story. The Black Widow is a really creepy experience. The game is based off of a true case in Australia and was recreated from original court records and letters. My only issue is that the game has to be connected to the internet in order to play. It didn’t bother me seeing how I played the game at home, but it’s definitely worth noting. The Black Widow is a great murder mystery with some spookiness to it. The game may not be for everyone, but for fans of true crime or just a great story, The Black Widow is a creepy experience that shouldn’t be missed.
