SwipeRogue iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. Usually we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

SwipeRogue is a pixel art roguelike game that was recently released on the App Store by Masahiro Kano of Dead Fish Eye. It’s a grid-based game where you move your character around a 5 by 7 grid while trying to make it the portal on each level. SwipeRogue is all about numbers. You have your health which is your most important priority, your attack, food, and coins. Every move you make around the board consumes food and attacking enemies consumes your attack number. If either of these numbers reach zero, it starts pulling from your overall health number. The first few levels are pretty simple with the board being full of food and attack boosters. But, as the game progresses, there’s actually a bit of strategy involved. In between levels, you’ll be able to purchase new abilities and upgrade your skills with the coins that you earn from killing enemies. SwipeRogue is a fun little roguelike that gets better the more that you play it. My only major issue outside of it being a bit confusing at first is that my phone overheats when playing. It could just be my phone though. Regardless, SwipeRogue is a decent game worth checking out if you’re into roguelikes. Just be sure to give it some time.
