(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
It’s been awhile since I covered a SHMUP (shoot em’ up) game! Pixvader: Retro Force is a retro-style vertical shooter by indie developer NJRWolf. The game released back in September of last year and unfortunately got looked over by most people. Luckily, I’m here to tell ya that Pixvader actually a really solid game! It’s got a cool minimalist art-style and gets right to the point with things. There’s a brief mission objective and you’re off. Gameplay is pretty standard. You shoot down anything that moves, earn your coins, level up, and repeat. One thing that I didn’t like at first is that in order to keep your coins that you collect, you have to watch a video (if you’re playing for free). But, it’s better than having ads up at inconvenient times. You can always just pay to get rid of ads and it becomes a “premium” title. Because, there’s no timers or multiple currencies like in most F2P SHMUPS. I’ve been really digging this game so far. So, if you’re looking for something simple and solid, definitely get your trigger fingers on Pixvader!
