(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Perfect Grind is an arcade-y skateboarding game by Happa/Flying Pants Games that was recently released on the App Store under the Noodlecake umbrella. After writing reviews and working in the hyper-casual industry for the past 5+ years, I’ve always wanted to make a casual “one finger” skateboarding game. Perfect Grind is exactly what I had imagined in my head. It’s a simple game with a ton of depth once you dig into it. Paying homage to games like Tony Hawk and the Skate series, you skate around different areas completing missions for characters. Missions can range from things like wall planting stickers off of the walls, to doing certain tricks for an influencer’s video. Completing missions will earn you “wheels” which you can spend customizing your character. I’m still fairly early into Perfect Grind, but I’m loving every minute of it so far. The one-finger controls are super tight and feel perfect for mobile. It’s surprising how many different tricks you can pull off from simply flicking/tapping/holding your thumb! There’s quite a bit of content packed into this game too. There’s 4 different areas each with their own unique missions and things to collect in Career Mode. There’s also a Free Skate mode and a Park Editor. I would definitely suggest purchasing the full game unlock. Playing the free mode is fine enough to try the game out, but the game really opens up after you unlock the full game. If you’re a fan of skateboarding titles or just like fun one-button arcade games, Perfect Grind is well worth checking out!
