(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Soul Knight Prequel is…..well, it’s the prequel to last year’s shoot em up-style action game by ChillyRoom. This time around you are seeing how the SK heroes started their journey as you try to save Mystraea from impending doom. To be honest, Soul Knight Prequel feels like a totally different game from the first one. Instead of mindlessly shooting aliens, SKP plays more like a true ARPG. Arenas feel more like open areas, character combat is deeper and more fluid, and the story is really well written. The main gameplay loop is pretty straightforward. You use the portal to travel to different areas, clear the area of enemies and make it back to the safehouse. Where the fun is in its character building. There are 4 different classes to start with. As you progress and level up, you can create hybrid classes, earn new skills, collect tons of gear to find, and more. Soul Knight Prequel is a lot of fun, but unfortunately most of the fun is hampered by server issues. The developer is aware of the problem, but I still need to mention it. You are constantly barraged with pop-ups about the server. I also worry about the game not possibly being finished. With the game being F2P, I haven’t come across a single ad or IAP. So, I’m just wondering if the game will eventually change. But, as it is right now (not including the server issues), Soul Knight Prequel is a really solid ARPG. I just hope it stays this way.
