(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time/money.)
Frakktus is an “abstract metaphorical representation of the mandala of consciousness” (you know, THAT whole genre) by the indie developer/s at Conferno Art. The game is hard to describe, but it’s basically a kaleidoscope of colors with a core that you need to make contact with. You control a ship in the outer rim that’s constantly firing towards the center. The object is to make it to the core. This means taking out anything that’s blocking your way. It almost has a weird SHMUP (shoot em’ up) vibe going on. The game plays in portrait and landscape mode and the controls are pretty simple with just a single invisible v-stick. Frakktus may look beautiful on the outside, but it’s brutally tough at times. I’ve been struggling to earn “mantras” (currency). Regardless, it’s still a unique little game. You can unlock new color palettes, mental blocks, and even add your own music. If you’re looking for something different, Frakktus is definitely worth checking out.
Frakktus is also in this week’s iOS Roundup!
