Rima: The Story Begins SNAPP REVIEW!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time/money.)

Rima: The Story Begins is a story-driven platformer/metroidvania game by the team at Up Entertainment. I’m not going to even try to paraphrase the story in this one though. It’s very long and convoluted and I’m still trying to understand it myself. Anyway, you play as Rima is he sets out to fulfill his destiny with the help of his sidekick, Huva. The game itself is absolutely beautiful. The characters are charming and the world is gorgeous. It still amazes me that I’m playing this game on my phone. The platforming and level design is really well done also. It’s fairly linear, but somehow does a good job feeling very open. The controls are ok enough. They aren’t perfect, but they get the job done. It’s a shame that the game doesn’t support MFI controllers. The other thing this game missed on is the lack of iPad support. It plays great on the iPhone, but I found myself squinting quite a bit and even overlooking certain areas because things were so dark. Even with these issues, Rima: The Story Begins is still a good game. But with some small control tweaks and MFI/iPad support, it could be a great game.

Rima: The Story Begins is also in this week’s iOS Roundup!
